The stacked sensor and why it matters
A stacked sensor reads out far faster than a conventional one, which means rolling shutter skew is close to a non-issue. Fast pans, quick handheld moves and subjects moving across frame all behave the way they should rather than leaning.
For rigging that reduces the penalty on handheld and gimbal work, because the artefact that makes rapid movement look wrong is largely gone. It does not replace technique and it widens what you can get away with.
It also enables high frame rate capture at high resolution, which is where fast readout genuinely pays off. The media plan needs to account for that, since high frame rate recording multiplies bitrate roughly proportionally.
The cooling fan and cage clearance
Fujifilm sells an optional cooling fan that mounts to the back of the body, and it substantially extends recording times in warm conditions. If you use it, the cage must leave that mount and its airflow clear.

What it needs

Internal ProRes on an APS-C body
The X-H2S records ProRes internally, which is unusual outside cine line and higher-end hybrid bodies. That removes the biggest argument for an external recorder: a device, a cable, a continuous power draw and a mounting problem all disappear.
ProRes is an intraframe codec, so every frame is complete and the footage scrubs instantly in an edit. On a shoot where the edit starts the same day, that difference is the whole value, independent of any image quality argument.
The storage consequence is real. ProRes 422 HQ at 4K is roughly 396 GB per hour, which is around four times a typical camera codec. A Delkin 512GB CFexpress Type B 4.0 at 512 GB is about an hour and a quarter at that setting, so plan the mode against the shoot.
X mount and lens choices
X mount is APS-C only, with a 1.53x crop factor which for video purposes is effectively identical to Super 35. That means the framing conventions and lens equivalences match the classic cinema frame, which is a genuine advantage for narrative work.
Fujifilm's own lenses are well regarded and reasonably compact, and third party options including manual cine primes are widely available in X mount. Weight is favourable compared with full frame: a fast APS-C zoom is roughly a third of the mass of a full frame equivalent.
The flange distance is 18mm, so adapting EF, F and other SLR mounts works with a simple mechanical adapter. That opens the used markets for building a manual cine set on a budget, the same route that works on every short-flange mirrorless mount.
Gimbal fit
A caged X-H2S with a fast APS-C zoom, a monitor and a microphone comes to roughly 1.7 to 2.1 kg, which sits inside a 3 kg gimbal working window with genuine margin. That is a more comfortable position than any full frame equivalent build.
Adding a V-mount and plate takes it to 2.5 to 2.9 kg, which reaches the top of that window. For stabilised work specifically, keep the camera on its own cells and run the monitor from a NEEWER NP-F970 Two-Battery Kit with Charger instead.
Combined with the stacked sensor and its fast readout, this is a genuinely strong gimbal body: light enough for a mid-class stabiliser, and free of the rolling shutter skew that makes fast gimbal moves look wrong on slower-reading sensors.
