What that means in practice

When you click a product link on this site and buy something, we receive a small commission from the retailer. The price you pay is exactly the same as it would be if you had gone to the retailer directly. There is no markup, no surcharge and no difference in your order.

Essentially every outbound product link on this site is an affiliate link. That is a deliberate policy rather than an accident: a product mentioned in prose without a link is a reader who has to go and search for it, which serves nobody. Where a product cannot be linked to a specific listing, the link goes to a scoped search at the same retailer instead, and the page says so.

What it does not change

Commission rates do not decide the picks. Several roundups here recommend a $59 part over a $899 one, and several pages recommend not buying the category at all, which is the least commercially sensible advice available and is frequently the correct advice.

The reason is straightforward rather than noble. A recommendation that makes somebody buy the wrong thing produces a return and a reader who never comes back. This site is built to be useful for years, and being wrong is more expensive than being unhelpful.

Prices

Every price shown is the figure recorded while researching, kept so that a build total means something for budgeting. Retail prices change constantly, so the link is always the authority and the number on the page is a planning figure. If a total looks wrong, check the current listings.

What we are not paid to say

No manufacturer pays for placement on this site. No product is included because a brand asked, and no product is excluded because a brand did not. There are no sponsored posts, no paid reviews and no gifted units driving a recommendation.

We also do not claim to have had every product in our hands. Picks are researched from published specifications, standards documentation and verified owner reviews, and every page says so in its footer. That is stated plainly rather than buried, because a fabricated testing claim is the most common dishonesty in this category.
